According to the National Pest Management Association There are nearly 20,000 pest control companies operating in the United States. Unfortunately, the services they provide will differ based on varying degrees of expertise, knowledge, certifications and quality control standards. To help you with the task of selecting a good pest control company, here are some steps to help you make a selection.

  • Try to locate several pest management companies by searching the telephone and online directories. Some may have a specific designation such as termite or bed bug specialist. However, this designation should not be a deciding factor.
  • It is always preferable to use a company that uses IPM services, or Integrated Pest Management.  IPM is designed to minimize the use of pesticides. Companies that have this program in place are more likely to provide a system of continued monitoring.
  • Make sure the company is registered to apply pesticides in your state. The regulatory agency that applies to your state can be found at http://npic.orst.edu/state.htm.
